Press Release Date

The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) advises data controllers that the online portal for registration remains offline to facilitate administrative and technical enhancements designed to strengthen the efficiency of the registration process required by the Data Protection Act, 2020 (“the Act”).

The OIC sincerely values the commitment of data controllers working to comply with the registration requirements and regrets any inconvenience or other impact the temporary unavailability of the online registration platform may cause. The Office extends its sincere appreciation to all stakeholders for their patience and understanding during this period.

The Information Commissioner assures the public that best efforts are being made to expedite the completion of the necessary upgrades and no liability under the Act will be imposed by the Commissioner on data controllers for processing personal data without registration during the period the platform is offline.

The public will be advised through the OIC’s official communication channels once a date is confirmed for the reopening of the portal.

The OIC remains committed to transparency in regulating data protection and to supporting data controllers in meeting their compliance obligations under the Act.
