To implement the OIC’s communication programmes by delivering current, accurate, and comprehensive information about the Data Protection Act, 2020 and the Access to Information Act, 2002 through the use of dynamic communication and public relations strategies and tools designed to enhance the public’s awareness of their rights to the privacy of their personal data and to access official documents.

Duties and Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Management/administrative responsibilities 

  • Assists with the preparation of the Branch’s Operational Plan and Budget. 

  • Assists with designing and managing Strategic Communication Plans.

Technical/professional responsibilities

  • Develops, updates, and maintains a comprehensive events calendar detailing all OIC-related activities.
  • Plans, coordinates, and manages the OIC’s participation in events such as exhibitions, conferences, and public engagements.
  • Organizes and executes official OIC events, including seminars, launches, and press briefings.
  • Ensures logistics management, media coordination, and appropriate protocol arrangements for ceremonies, conferences, and other official functions.
  • Prepares speeches, messages, and communication briefs for review by the Communication and International Relations Manager.
  • Writes, edits, and proofreads reports, publications, website content, and social media material to ensure clarity and consistency with OIC’s communication standards.
  • Produces and disseminates the staff newsletter to enhance internal communication and engagement.
  • Plans and executes the public education and communication activities of the OIC in alignment with the entity’s objectives.

  • Coordinates the development of educational materials using diverse methods and media to creatively present information tailored to different audiences.

  • Plans, develops, and delivers information sessions — including presentations, exhibitions, workshops, and seminars — to public and private sector organizations, schools, community groups, and other stakeholders.

  • Collaborates with public authorities, NGOs, and other partners in the execution of public education initiatives and events.

  • Develops and implements strategies to assess the effectiveness of public education programmes and recommends or implement adjustments to address findings.

  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with key target groups to promote awareness of relevant rights and responsibilities and advocates for educational programmes to address needs.

  • Prepares media briefs/advisories and other communication material to support the OIC’s public information efforts.

  • Collaborates with media houses to develop and implement programmes that promote public awareness of Data Protection, Access to Information and the role and functions of the OIC.

  • Plans and coordinates public relations activities such as press conferences, media briefings, and interviews related to the subject area and activities of the OIC.

  • Establishes and maintains strong, effective working relationships with media representatives to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information.

 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualification and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from a recognized tertiary institution;
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in journalism, communications, Public Relations, or Public Education;
  • Training in the field of Print and Electronic media would be a direct advantage;
  • Experience in the design and delivery of training and communication programmes;
  • Practical experience and knowledge of the full range of communications approaches, tools and methodologies essential to planning and executing effective communications strategies.
Special Conditions Associated with the Job
  • Normal office conditions;

  • May be required to work beyond normal working hours and away from office;

  • Prolonged use of the computer.
